He was lead counsel for the franchisees in the landmark franchise case MacAlpine et al v Aamco Automatic Transmissions, Inc., which established the first federal court precedent recognizing that franchisees have a constitutionally protected right under the First Amendment to associate and deal as a group with their common problems, including problems of franchisor abuse.
